Client :

Leela Palace Kovalam

Brief :

Identity for a historical palace on a clifftop overlooking Arabian sea

Solution :

we decided to use dramatic upcurling wave shape of Kovalam as a basic building block and designed a mark that embodies the culture, history and terrain of its location

The upper curling wave shape naturally occurs when the wave encounters a rock face or cliff like in Kovalam

We took this shape as our basic building block end explored its possibilities in representing the USPs of the palace experience that is the ocean and its history

The Kerala mural style curling wave shapes instantly establishes the nature of the dramatic shoreline as the ocean embraces the cliff

The same wave shape gracefully transforms into a traditional “Gopuram” structure reminiscent of royal monuments with the unique Travancore royal “chamaram” at its apex

Using only simple curling lines the artwork establishes an emotional backdrop reminiscent of Royal architecture, history and the dramatic shoreline created by the cliff
